Senate Democrats Oppose Latest Attacks on Abortion
Today, Republicans in the Ohio Senate Health committee voted to advance two anti-abortion bills which the medical community say are based on false claims and misinformation.

“I am deeply disturbed by the Senate Majority’s move to pass legislation that is a solution in search of a problem, not grounded in evidenced-based, medically accurate standards of care,” said state Sen. Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood), Ranking Member on the Health committee. “We were sent here to fix roads and reduce infant and maternal mortality, not restrict women’s constitutional right to reproductive healthcare. These bills appear to be, once again, of a political – rather than a sound policy – nature.”

Senate Bill 155 would force doctors to inform patients seeking a medication abortion about non-existent “abortion reversal” protocols. The treatment has not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists does not to support its use.

Republicans also voted in support of SB 208, legislation that aims to criminalize abortion by discouraging providers and women seeking to exercise their constitutional right to choose.
