O'Brien Brings Millions In Investments To Northeast Ohio

COLUMBUS—Senator Sandra O'Brien (R-Ashtabula) announced the investment of $3.7 Billion to support local projects across Ohio, including millions in investments for the 32nd Senate District. These dollars were included in Senate Bill 450, the Capital Budget bill, which is awaiting signature by Governor DeWine.

"Every time I leave northeast Ohio, I can feel my heartstrings pulling me back. It's my home, just as it is for hundreds of thousands of other Ohioans," said Senator O'Brien. "That is why I advocated for each and every one of these projects. A good homeowner takes care of their home, and that is exactly what these investments do. These projects are an investment into our homes, our communities, and our families."

The following projects are receiving funding as part of the Capital Budget:

  • Ashtabula County
    • Ashtabula County Animal Shelter Facility, $400,000
    • Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking Shelter, $400,000
    • SPIRE Institute and Academy Soccer Complex, $400,000
    • Elevator Modernizations for Ashtabula Regional Medical Center, $300,000
    • Conneaut Harbor Dredging and Marina Renovation, $250,000
    • Ashtabula County Metroparks Pymatuning Valley Greenway, $200,000
    • Geneva Recreation Center, $196,250
  • Geauga County
    • Geauga County Fairgrounds Building Project, $700,000
    • Chardon Pocket Park Project, $350,000
    • Parkman TWP Community House Rehabilitation Project, $162,500
    • Chardon Township Park Restrooms, $125,000
    • Geauga County Fair Electrical Upgrades, $111,000
    • DDC Clinic for Special Needs Children, $100,000
    • Fairmount Center for the Arts, $75,000
  • Trumbull County
    • City of Niles Park Improvements, $650,000
    • Weatherfield Township Community Park, $500,000
    • Trumbull County Regional Fire Training Facility, $450,000
    • Akron Children's Warren Health Center Expansion, $400,000
    • Waddell Park Baseball Fields, $300,000
    • Mahoning River Water Trail, $250,000
    • Medici Museum of Art Infrastructure Project, $250,000
    • Trumbull County Fairground Improvements, $200,000
    • Trumbull County Museum of Science Fiction & Fantasy Arts, $150,000
    • Mahoningside Community Park Development, $125,000
    • Warren Historic Park Improvements, $120,000
    • Belmont Park Cemetery Restoration, $100,000
    • Woodland Park Pickleball Court Restoration, $27,500


The legislature generally passes a Capital Budget every two years, funding improvements to public services and facilities across the state, including schools, infrastructure, and mental health and addiction facilities. Senate Bill 450 includes:

  • $645 Million for the Public Works Commission
  • $611 Million for the School Facilities Commission
  • $425 Million for Higher Education Institutions
  • $385 Million for the Department of Behavioral Health
  • $265 Million for the Department of Natural Resources

Senate Bill 450 now goes to Governor DeWine for signature.
