COLUMBUS—State Senator Sandra O'Brien (R-Ashtabula) this week celebrated the announcement that 12 meat processors have been awarded a total of nearly $3 million to implement processing efficiencies, expand or construct facilities at existing sites, assist in training and certification, and improve harvest services.

The funds include $250,000 for Premium Meats Inc. located in Trumbull county.

"As a national leader in agriculture, Ohio knows just how important re-investing in our food production capabilities is," said O'Brien. "With our current supply chain crisis and inflation skyrocketing, ensuring meat processing facilities can get more food on the tables of Ohioans is imperative."

This is the third round of awards made through the Ohio Meat Processing Grant, and they will help businesses in 11 counties. Including the first two rounds, 128 grants have been awarded to Ohio meat processors including over $900,000 awarded to 6 meat processing facilities in Ashtabula and Trumbull counties.
