Wilkin Announces Over $14 Million In Investment For Southern Ohio

COLUMBUS—State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) and The Ohio Senate announced the investment of $3.7 Billion to support local projects across Ohio, including over $14 Million to support projects across the 17th Senate District. These dollars were included in Senate Bill 450, the Capital Budget Bill. which was passed by the Senate Wednesday.

"Southern Ohio is full of countless historical gems, cultural hubs, and community service organizations that serve residents all across the state," said Senator Wilkin. "The investment into our region will help reinvigorate our businesses, our communities, and better the lives of families all across the 17th Senate District."

The following projects received funding in Senate Bill 450:

  • Fayette County
    • Foundry Amphitheatre Improvements, $550,000
    • Fayette County Museum Restoration, $145,117
    • Perry Township Recreation Center, $47,300
  • Gallia County
    • Rio Grand Community College, $7,500,000
    • Ariel Opera House, $400,000
    • Gallia County Junior Fair & Event Center project, $400,000
    • Field of Hope Triple Duty Fitness Project, $130,000
  • Highland County
    • Rock Fork State Park East Shore Lighting, $525,000
    • Information Technology Center of Excellence, $250,000
    • Highland County Agriculture Society Improvements, $150,000
    • Highland County Fair Improvements, $75,000
    • Highland County Fairgrounds - Flora Hall Upgrades, $75,000
    • Scott House Improvements, $68,000
  • Hocking County
    • Mingo Park Revitalization, $200,000
    • Logan Center for Creative Learning, $68,300
  • Jackson County
    • Canter's Cave 4-H Camp improvements, $250,000
    • Jackson Park Bathroom and other Improvements, $200,000
    • Jackson County Fairgrounds Grandstand, $48,500
  • Lawrence Count

    • Vinton County Health Facility Improvements, $75,000

The legislature generally passes a Capital Budget every two years, funding improvements to public services and facilities across the state, including schools, infrastructure, and mental health and addiction facilities. Senate Bill 450 includes:

  • $645 Million for the Public Works Commission
  • $611 Million for the School Facilities Commission
  • $425 Million for the Higher Education Institutions
  • $385 Million for the Department of Behavioral Health
  • $265 Million for the Department of Natural Resources

 

The Capital Budget now heads to the Ohio House for further consideration.
