Governor Signs Wilson Bill Adding Capitalism to High School Financial Literacy Curriculum
COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) has announced that Governor Mike DeWine has signed Senate Bill 17 into law, which requires the State Board of Education to incorporate content related to free market capitalism into financial literacy courses taught in grades 9 through 12.
“Financial Literacy is the great equalizer; everyone needs it, from the tradesman to the doctor. This is only possible because of free market economics, which is the bedrock of this great equalizer,” said Wilson. “I am grateful to see the Governor sign Senate Bill 17 into law. Our greatest obligation to our students is prepare them for success. One of the most important ways to prepare them is to ensure that they understand how money works and how the monetary system operates.”
