COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) today announced the unanimous passage of Senate Bill 15, which will enhance liability protections for local treasures, county auditors, as well as township fiscal officers.
Under current law, these individuals can be held liable for loss of public funds, even when they have performed all official duties required with professionalism and reasonable care. The bill seeks to ensure that public servants who are not at fault are still protected.
"I am proud to join my colleagues in passing this important legislation to protect our local public officials whom we entrust with our finances," said Wilson. "So long as the loss of public funds is not from negligence or a wrongful act, they deserve our full protection under the law."
Senate Bill 15 will now go to the Ohio House for further consideration. For more information, click here.
