Senate Passes Wilson's "Slow Down, Move Over" Bill
COLUMBUS - The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 178, sponsored by State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville). This legislation would enhance Ohio's "Slow Down, Move Over" law to include distressed vehicles. A distressed vehicle is any vehicle that is pulled over on the shoulder that is displaying hazard or blinking lights, flares, or some form of emergency signage.
"There is a lot of data showing a rise in accidents and fatalities related to distressed vehicles," said Wilson. "I believe SB 178 will prevent more of these accidents and save lives. This legislation will keep drivers and our roadways in the Buckeye State safe."
This bill does not apply to abandoned vehicles on the side of the road. It only applies to situations where a driver must pull over to the shoulder and that driver turns on the vehicle's hazard lights or displays flares or emergency signage.
Senate Bill 178 now heads to the Ohio House for consideration. You can learn more about this legislation here.
