Senator Wilson Praises Passage of Judicial Transparency Bill
COLUMBUS — Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) praised the Ohio Senate's passage of House Bill 105, which protects Ohioans with strengthened third party litigation financing regulations.
HB 105 is a companion bill to Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Sen. Wilson and Senator George Lang (R-West Chester).
Third-party litigation filing refers to hedge funds, investment firms, and other entities that invest in lawsuits to receive a portion of the recovery.
"We can't let Ohio's judicial system be a way for investors to gamble like a case is a lottery ticket," Sen. Wilson said.
While the legislation doesn't outlaw the practice, it creates much-needed transparency that promotes accountability.
"While I believe more could still be done," he said, "this is a great step to protect Ohio's consumers, businesses, and judicial system."
The Ohio Senate sent the bill to Governor DeWine for his signature.
