COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) testified before the Government Oversight and Reform committee in support of his "Innovate the Code" bill designed to save taxpayers millions of dollars by modernizing how the state does business.

Wilson called this a "good government" bill that simplifies and streamlines the Ohio Revised Code, saving an estimated $44 million in taxpayer dollars and 58,000 hours of labor through increased efficiency over the next 10 years.

"Many of these are common-sense but long-overdue changes," said Wilson. "For instance, simply delivering tax assessments electronically instead of by certified mail will save $3.4 million dollars a year."

Wilson's bill would use an artificial intelligence program to analyze Ohio Revised Code. This software tool can swiftly identify outdated processes and unnecessary provisions. That would provide policymakers with a powerful tool to streamline regulations.
