COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) yesterday welcomed Bob Arledge to Columbus to be recognized during Senate Session for his athletic accomplishments. At 85 years old, Bob was named the 2018 World Masters Athletics Champion in the pole vault.
"Bob is a good friend of mine, and I am utterly amazed at what he continues to accomplish in his life," said Wilson. "His mental and physical strength is an inspiration to me and everyone he comes in contact with. I am honored that he made the long trip from Warren County to join us for Session."
During the World Masters Track and Field Championship held in Malaga, Spain, Bob won the Gold medal by vaulting an impressive 5 feet 10 inches.
"You have more control over your health than you realize," said Arledge. "A regular exercise program and proper nutrition is a good starting point, and is something you can do at any age."
Bob is a resident at Otterbein Senior Life in Lebanon and volunteers his time at Bishop Fenwick High School, coaching both boys and girls in pole vaulting. He is also a member of the Worldwide Senior Pole Vaulting Brotherhood.
