COLUMBUS—Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof recently announced the appointment of State Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) to serve as a member of the Ohio Retirement Study Council.

Created in 1968, the Retirement Study Council is responsible for providing legislative oversight as well as advising and informing the state legislature on all matters relating to the benefits, funding, investments and administration of the state's public retirement systems.

"I look forward to serving on the Ohio Retirement Study Council to ensure that the dollars invested by Ohio's public employees are managed in the most effective manner possible and that our retirement systems are viable for future retirees and their families," said Wilson.

The five state retirement systems have combined assets of approximately $185 billion, with approximately 675,000 active contributing members, 761,000 inactive members and 458,000 beneficiaries and recipients.

Benefits are independently managed by the five systems and funded through employer and employee contributions and investment earnings on those contributions.
