Manchester Bills Supporting Community Health Continue to Move Through Senate Process
COLUMBUS—Two bills sponsored by State Senator Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield), Senate Bill 207 and Senate Bill 220, are receiving support as they move through the Senate's committee process.
Senate Bill 207 received its third hearing in the Senate Financial Institutions, Insurance and Technology Committee this week. The bill prohibits health plans and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) from discriminating against patients who use third-party assistance to help pay increasing out-of-pocket expenses mandated by their coverage plans.
Senate Bill 220 received its second hearing in the same committee this week. The bill establishes statewide Community Paramedicine Programs to provide community-based nonemergency medical services. The program will strengthen the connection between patients, doctors, and local health resources with the goal of reducing avoidable emergency responses and hospital re-admissions.
"Healthy communities in our state lead to better outcomes for all Ohioans," said Senator Manchester. "These pieces of legislation provide an avenue for a smarter delivery of healthcare and greater community health. I know that these policies match Ohio’s goals of improving population health and reducing overall healthcare costs."
