November 9, 2021
Terry Johnson News

COLUMBUS—State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) yesterday announced that Governor DeWine signed Sub. House Bill 172 into law, which legalizes consumer fireworks on certain holidays. "The previous laws around consumer grade fireworks were largely ignored and unenforceable," Johnson said. "This is an issue that my colleagues and I have worked on diligently for quite awhile. Not only does this law mean that Ohioans will now be able to legally celebrate a number of our major holidays with fireworks, but also makes significant strides toward making the use of consumer grade fireworks safer." Under the new law, Ohioans will be able to set off fireworks on holidays such as New Year's Eve, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Local governments will retain the ability to prohibit the use of fireworks. Sub. House Bill 172 will go into effect July 1, 2022.
