COLUMBUS—State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) applauded the recent decision by Southern Ohio Communications Services, Inc. to invest $3.8 million to provide a 1 Gig optical fiber-to-the-home high-speed Internet service to over 1,300 residential and business customers covering 64 miles across southern Ohio.

"Access to high speed internet is vital in today's ever changing economy and social landscape, and unfortunately, rural areas are often behind in obtaining access to reliable high speed internet," Johnson said. "This investment will change the lives of so many across the 14th Senate District and southern Ohio."

Officials from Southern Ohio Communications Services, Inc. indicated the investment represents the first of a two phase approach to providing expanded optical fiber-to-home high-speed internet service within its rural footprint in Pike and Scioto Counties. In the second phase of the project, Southern Ohio Communication Services will make an additional investment that will result in optical fiber-to-home high-speed Internet service to residents and businesses in Southern Ohio. The current project will result in the creation of at least five new jobs and construction of a new warehouse to store equipment.
