COLUMBUS—State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) last week joined the Clermont County Soil and Water Conservation District to learn about some of their innovative projects to protect and restore southern Ohio's natural resources.

"It was an honor that these hard working individuals took time out of their busy day to help me learn a little bit more about their work and how I can better support them in Columbus," said Senator Johnson. "Ohio's natural resources are a crucial part of a multi-faceted system that keeps Ohioans healthy and thriving. I look forward to working with my partners in Clermont County and across the district to ensure we are doing everything we can to maintain the health and viability of our natural resources."

During the meeting, they discussed their many projects and grant funding for agricultural conservation education and assistance, drainage and erosion assistance, watershed management, soil and water conservation education, solid waste and recycling education and other landowner assistance issues related to their natural resources.

The biennial state budget, which passed earlier this year, increased support for local soil and water conservation districts by providing 1:1 matching funds with local dollars for the first time in 12 years. Additionally, the H2Ohio Fund, also included in the budget, invests $172 million in Ohio's lakes and rivers as part of a comprehensive effort to address the challenges faced by Ohio's vital waterways.
