Ohio Senate Passes Johnson Bill to Display Veterans' Benefits and Services
COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 39 sponsored by Senators Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) and Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) by a unanimous vote of 32-0, which mandates the creation of a veterans’ services and benefits poster to be provided to employers at no charge.
“Ohio’s veterans have already made the ultimate commitment to their country,” Johnson said. “So, it is important that Ohio and its businesses are also committed to veterans receiving the benefits and opportunities available for their physical, mental, and economic well-being.”
Senate Bill 39 requires the Ohio Director of Commerce, in consultation with the Ohio Director of Veterans Services, to create a veterans’ benefits and services poster. This poster will include information such as available benefits from the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, The United States Department of Veteran Affairs’ Crisis Line, mental health resources, educational and workforce training opportunities, tax exemptions or benefits, and other key resources for veterans.
This legislation also requires the Director of Commerce to provide employers with a free copy of the poster to display on the employers’ premises. Such posters will ensure veterans’ access to information on some of the vital and life-changing support available to them.
