Ohio House Passes Pair of Schaffer Bills

COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced today the passage of Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 and Senate Bill 42 by the Ohio House of Representatives.
“I’m proud of the actions of the Ohio House of Representatives today to pass these important pieces of legislation,” said Schaffer “Today’s passage confirms the General Assembly’s commitment to supporting veterans and public health.”
Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 urges Congress to enact the Mark Takai Atomic Veterans Healthcare Parity Act, which would allow “Atomic Veterans” access to the proper coverage of medical care and assistance related to their military service.
“It is imperative that we as Americans take care of our service members and veterans,” Schaffer said. “This concurrent resolution shows that the Ohio General Assembly is committed to highlighting and advocating against this disservice to our nation’s ‘Atomic Veterans’.”
Senate Concurrent Resolution 1 will now be formally sent in a letter to the U.S. Congress.
Senate Bill 42 will name the second week of November as “Ohio Diabetes Awareness-Heart Connection Week”. Last year, the Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Medicaid, Ohio Commission on Minority Health and Ohio Department of Administrative Services jointly issued the 2018 Ohio Diabetes Action Plan that was required by House Bill 216 from the 131st General Assembly.
“The goal of this legislation is to save lives through awareness,” Schaffer said. “Diabetes is a deadly and debilitating disease that many Ohioans struggle with daily. I believe that by raising awareness to diabetes and related conditions like cardiovascular disease that we are showing our commitment to follow up on the Ohio Diabetes Action Plan and creating a healthier Ohio.”
Senate Bill 42 will now head to Governor DeWine for further consideration.
