COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) this week announced the state's Controlling Board approval of $1.2 million in funds for the purchase of new dredging equipment for use at Buckeye Lake State Park in Fairfield, Licking, and Perry counties.
“I am proud to have advocated and voted in favor of funding for this project. This is a huge win for the Buckeye Lake area,” Schaffer said. “These funds will go toward a critical need in purchasing new dredging equipment for the lake. This purchase will go a long way toward helping improve water quality and safety for boaters.”
The current dredger at Buckeye Lake, known as “The Buckeye,” was purchased in 1964 and has been costly in terms of repairs and operations due to the equipment’s age and lack of available parts, according to documents submitted to the state’s controlling board by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Funding for the Buckeye Lake State Park dredger was secured by Schaffer, and his colleagues, through the state capital appropriations legislation passed in December 2020 as part of Senate Bill 310 from the 133rd General Assembly.
