Schaffer Announces State Controlling Board Approval of Funding for New Projects in District

COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced today that the State Controlling Board has released over $1.461 million in funding for projects in the 20th Ohio Senate District including projects at Ohio University Lancaster, Dolgencorp LLC in Zanesville, and Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Schaffer also announced the release of $300 million in CARES Act funds to K-12 schools and the Ohio Department of Higher Education to prepare for the upcoming school year and purchase supplies to best protect students from COVID-19.
“It is important that we get these funds out to our school districts and universities as they prepare for the upcoming school year,” Schaffer said. “I am proud to see the State of Ohio’s commitment toward keeping our classrooms safe for students and staff.”
Ohio University Lancaster will receive $979,340 for improvements to campus HVAC systems and energy efficiency. These improvements include the replacement of 52-year-old boilers in Brasee hall and a 44-year-old air handler in Herrold Hall.
“I am thankful that Ohio University Lancaster has received funding from the State of Ohio for this project,” Schaffer said. “This is a simply a quality of life improvement to the campus’s infrastructure and maintaining these HVAC systems are important to the health and wellness of the student’s at this campus.”
The Ohio Developmental Services Agency (DSA) will receive $184,156 for public roadwork improvements to send to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority to support the expansion of Dolgencorp LLC’s (Dollar General) distribution center in Zanesville. This includes 3,700 feet of resurfacing of Eastpointe Drive to support the added traffic from the facility expansion that will create 55 new jobs and help retain 758 existing jobs.
“The partnership between DSA, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority, and Dolgencorp LLC has shown that Muskingum County and the State of Ohio are a great place to do business,” Schaffer said.
The Ohio Department of Youth Services will receive $298,283 for projects at the Circleville Juvenile Corrections Facility for security systems improvements including the upgrade of cameras, door controls, and crash gates. These improvements go toward minimizing the movement within the facility in the event an altercation breaks out and improves safety for those at the facility.
Funding for these projects was secured in the State of Ohio Transportation budget passed by the Ohio General Assembly in July of 2019 and in House Bill 481 that was passed in July of 2020.
