Schaffer Applauds Naming of Coyote Run as Ohio's 140th Nature Preserve

COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) today applauded the announcement by the Ohio Department of National Resources (ODNR) that Coyote Run will be named the 140th State Nature Preserve. "Coyote Run is a fantastic area highlighting one of the many diverse and intricate ecosystems Ohio holds," Schaffer said. "I am proud that this land will forever be protected for Ohioans to observe and learn from." Coyote Run will have 230 acres of land preserved, containing large and diverse forested wetlands with numerous vernal pools which are important to amphibians and other wildlife like the tiger salamander and western chorus frog. The new preserve also protects upland forest, stream corridor, and wet meadow. Dedicating a site as a State Nature Preserve is the highest level of land protection afforded by the State of Ohio. Once public and privately-owned lands are dedicated, the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves works to ensure they are permanently protected, while allowing for education, science, and visitation.
