COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer this week introduced legislation that would allow up to five years of military service to count towards service credit at the State of Ohio for purposes of longevity or vacation accrual. This bill will provide a similar benefit that is currently afforded to Ohio Army National Guard and Ohio Air National Guard veterans who now serve as school teachers. “No group embodies what it means to be a public servant more than our military veterans who bravely sacrifice and serve in honor of their country, state and community,” said Schaffer. “We owe it to them to further recognize this dedication by allowing veterans who return home and work as Ohio state government employees to include their military service as part of their service credit to the state.” To learn more about Senate Bill 287, click here.
