Schaffer Mourns Passing of Longtime Pickaway County Sheriff

COLUMBUS – State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) issued the following statement today on the death of former Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight Radcliff at age 87.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Sheriff Radcliff during this difficult time. Having represented Pickaway County in the Ohio General Assembly, I was fortunate enough to get to know the sheriff and considered him a dear friend. He left an indelible impression on the lives he touched, and will be remembered as a individual who contributed immeasurably to the world around him. His knowledge and skill for law enforcement is shown through his numerous awards and recognitions he earned, including being chosen as Ohio Sheriff of the Year in 1975.
Although the void his death has created can never be filled, the legacy of commitment Sheriff Radcliff showed to Pickaway County will surely live on. It is certain that the world is a richer place for his having been in it, and he will be sorely missed," Schaffer said.
Sheriff Radcliff served Pickaway County as sheriff from 1965 through his retirement in 2013. At that time, he was the longest serving sheriff in the United States. A second generation sheriff, serving under his father for over seven years, Sheriff Radcliff protected the citizens of Pickaway County for 55 years.
