Schaffer Praises Override Of Property Tax Reform Veto
COLUMBUS—Today, State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) joined his Senate colleagues in overturning Governor DeWine's property tax reform veto.
“I proudly voted to bring property tax relief to my constituents,” Schaffer said. “The people of Ohio deserve property tax reform, and this veto override is the first major step toward this reform.”
Following the passage of the Operating Budget, House Bill 96, Governor DeWine vetoed 67 sections. Among sections vetoed was the restriction of subdivisions to pursue certain types of levies including but not limited to replacement and substitute emergency levies.
“The restriction of confusing levies will allow for more voter input and control on providing much needed property tax relief to Ohio’s hard-working families and seniors on the brink of losing their homes,” Schaffer added. “This override makes great strides toward addressing unchecked and out of control increases in property taxes.”
Levies currently in place, or on the November 2025 ballot, will not be affected by this restriction.
