Schaffer Provides Testimony on Unemployment Compensation Bill

COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) yesterday provided sponsor testimony on Senate Bill 228, which would provide legislative oversight of executive actions on federal unemployment compensation benefits. "Even though the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance has ended, it is clear that it damaged Ohio's economy by encouraging people not to go back to work and businesses across the state being unable to find or re-hire employees," Schaffer said. "The value of this legislation is in getting Ohioans back to work and protecting our economy in the future." According to a recent poll from Morning Consult, 1.8 million Americans say they receive enough money from unemployment insurance without having to work. Senate Bill 228 would require the legislature to approve any major changes to unemployment benefits from the federal government before benefits can be accepted.
