Schaffer Requests Emergency Storm Damage Help From President Trump

COLUMBUS—Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) is urging President Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide emergency aid to Perry County, especially Roseville and Crooksville, to assist in damage recovery after the storms that hit the region in August. 

In his letter, sent Tuesday via email, Schaffer asked the President, “to give Governor DeWine’s request for a major disaster declaration for the State of Ohio your full, fair and urgent consideration.”

“Much of my Ohio Senate District has been afflicted with widespread damage as a result of these storms and the flooding that followed,” Schaffer said. “Homes, vehicles and businesses have been ruined and are complete losses in many cases.”

Schaffer also thanked President Trump for his “swift and expeditious response to the disaster,” by getting Small Business Administration and FEMA officials in Perry County immediately after the initial flooding.

“As clean up and recovery efforts are ongoing, many families and individuals in the area were flooded out of their homes and escaped rapidly rising flood waters with just the clothes on their backs leaving them without access to homes, critical identifying documents or transportation,” Schaffer said.

Schaffer also praised the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and local officials for urgently assisting flood victims. “We desperately need your Small Business Administration’s (SBA) and FEMA’s help to get these families back into stable housing and make sure that we are doing all we can to give them the resources they need and hope during the recovery process,” Schaffer said.
