COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) on Wednesday was sworn in as a member of the Ohio Senate after Senate Republicans unanimously voted to approve the screening committee recommendation to fill the vacancy in Ohio's 20th Senate District.

Ohio's 20th Senate District encompasses Fairfield, Guernsey, Hocking, Morgan and Muskingum counties, as well as parts of Athens and Pickaway counties. "It is a true honor and privilege to serve the people of the 20th Senate District," said Schaffer. "I look forward to working hard alongside my Senate colleagues to continue moving Ohio forward."

Schaffer joins the Senate from the Ohio House of Representatives, where he represented Fairfield county in the 77th House District. He previously served in the Ohio Senate from 2007-2014. A veteran legislator, he has chaired various committees in both the Ohio House and Senate dealing with public utilities, natural resources, taxation, commerce and labor issues.

For the remainder of the 133rd General Assembly, President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) has appointed Schaffer as Vice Chair of the Senate's standing committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources as well as a member of the standing committees on General Government and Agency Review; Local Government, Public Safety and Veterans Affairs; and Ways and Means.

In addition to his legislative duties, Schaffer has served two terms on the Ohio Society of Association Executives board of directors and on the board of the Fairfield Center for Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy, where he served as treasurer and president.

Schaffer is a graduate of Lancaster High School. He attended Ohio University Lancaster and Mount Union College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications. He and his wife, Lori, reside in Lancaster.
