COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced today that he will be touring the Pickerington Police Department early next week, welcoming the department’s new officers and presenting them with commendations.

“I want to thank Pickerington Police Chief Tod Cheney for the invitation and I am looking forward to my visit next week," said Schaffer. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to tour this facility and gain insight to the daily life of these brave men and women who protect our community.” Senate Bill 190, sponsored by Schaffer, would allow a law enforcement officer to claim a personal nonrefundable income tax credit up to $500 for amounts spent to purchase safety or protective gear, which are used while they are performing their official law enforcement duties. “This will provide financial relief to our police officers and will give them the tools they need to keep themselves and our community safe” said Schaffer.
