Schaffer Urges Governor DeWine To Declare Disaster In Fairfield County After Recent Flooding
COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced today that he sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine urging him to declare a disaster in Fairfield County due to the recent flooding that took place on the weekend of July 26-27.
“As the State Senator for Fairfield County, I feel that it is my duty to do everything possible to provide assistance to those individuals, families, and businesses in need,” Senator Schaffer said in the letter. “State disaster assistance could go a long way in bridging the gap for those Ohioans as they work to recover and rebuild their property and lives.”
This letter to Governor DeWine comes in response to the Fairfield County Commissioners and Greenfield Township Trustees declaring an emergency on July 29 from the flooding event. According to local officials and residents, roadways and culverts had been washed out due to the flooding along with significant property damage to homes and businesses throughout the county.
“Declaring a disaster and activating the State Disaster Relief Program for Fairfield County would unlock critical funding for local governments, individuals, and businesses that have been ravaged by flood waters and are struggling to recover,” Senator Schaffer said. “As recovery continues to unfold in Fairfield County, I encourage residents to report any damage to the Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency.”
The Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency may be reached by phone at 740-654-4357 or online at fairfieldema.com. Schaffer also encourages residents in need of assistance to contact his office regarding status updates on state disaster assistance information as it becomes available. They may contact State Senator Schaffer at 614-466-8076 or sd20@ohiosenate.gov.
