Senate Passes Schaffer, Roegner Bill to Streamline Ohio's Tax Filing Process
COLUMBUS—State Senators Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) and Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) today announced passage of Senate Bill 18. The legislation streamlines the tax filing process for Ohio's workers and businesses by conforming Ohio income tax law with recent federal tax law changes. "I am proud to work with Senator Roegner, my Senate colleagues and the Ohio Department of Taxation to ensure Ohio's already challenging tax system is not bogged down by additional complexities," said Schaffer. "By making these necessary changes, we are simplifying the process for Ohioans to receive all of the benefits they are allowed by the IRS." Specifically, the legislation incorporates into Ohio law various changes to federal tax law that have taken effect since March 27, 2020. Several of these changes directly impact the tax base for Ohio's workers and businesses, and continuity between state and federal law is crucial for streamlining the filing process. Senate Bill 18 will now go to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
