Senator Schaffer Announces Funding for Ohio Departments in Fight Against Coronavirus

COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) this week announced the State Controlling Board has increased funds for the Ohio Department of Health by $15.6 million and awarded an additional $3.8 million to the Ohio Department of Public Safety to address costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is extremely important that the State of Ohio give these departments the proper funds and resources to effectively combat the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Schaffer. “ODH and ODPS are on the frontlines of this crisis and I am thankful for our first-responders, nurses, and doctors who are fighting this battle to save and treat Ohioans.”
The Ohio Department of Health will receive $15,620,977 in federal funds, that sent to the State of Ohio as part of the Coronavirus Preparedness and response Supplemental Appropriations Act, signed by President Donald Trump on March 6, 2020. These funds will go toward supporting local health departments and their efforts to test and respond to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ohio Department of Public Safety will receive $3.8 million in funds to purchase supplies, pay for maintenance and cover payroll for costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the partial activation of the State Emergency Operations Center.
Funding for these departments was initially approved as a part of the state's operating budget.
