Cutrona Announces Funds for Brownfield Remediation
COLUMBUS—State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) announced that Mahoning County will receive $3,466,471 to help clean up and redevelop three brownfield sites in the county.
Projects receiving funding are:McGuffey Mall - $560,962
South High School Athletic Complex - $225,138
The Youngstown Flea - $2,680,371
"These funds will help restore unsafe buildings in Mahoning County and ultimately create jobs and drive local economic development," said Cutrona. "It is crucial that the state continues to invest in the Valley and make it the best place to live, work, and raise a family."
This funding is part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program that is currently funded through House Bill 33, the state's main operating budget which Cutrona co-sponsored. This program aims to help clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites. The grant program launched in 2021 and since then has awarded more than $450 million to support 374 projects in 83 counties.
