Cutrona Announces Funds for Economic Development
COLUMBUS—State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) announced the state will provide over $1.3 million for Carroll and Columbiana counties to support the development of brownfield sites.
"I am excited that these projects in my district are receiving the funds needed to create economic development in the region," said Cutrona. "I am committed to advocating for projects like these to receive funding and look forward to seeing them redeveloped."
Projects receiving awards include:
- Moody Avenue ACM and Waster Removal (Carroll County) - $336,000 for asbestos abatement and the real universal waste from a former school building that will be developed into office spaces for the county.
- GTFD Malvern Property Assessment (Carroll County) - $256,00 to conduct phase one and phase two environmental assessments of a former industrial property. These assessments will evaluate soil, groundwater, and air quality and provide recommendations for future redevelopment.
- Columbiana County Land Reutilization Corporation (Columbiana County) - $780,000 to remediate and redevelop the site of a former gas station and auto garage in East Palestine. This will create a development-ready site.
This funding is part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program that is currently funded through House Bill 33, the state's main operating budget which Cutrona co-sponsored. This program aims to help clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites. The grant program launched in 2021 and since then has awarded more than $636 million to support 626 projects in 86 counties.
