Columbus—The Ohio Senate voted in support of Amended Substitute House Bill 54, co-sponsored by State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield), Ohio's $11 billion two-year transportation budget.

"This Transportation budget is an investment in Ohio's future," said Senator Cutrona. "I'm proud to have supported this budget and look forward to seeing its impact throughout the valley and eastern Ohio over the next two years and beyond."

Included in the Transportation budget is $15 million for emergency pavement repair to address pavement slips. Erosion and hillside runoff undermines the integrity of road pavement, often leading to dangerous conditions and lane closures. Drivers across eastern Ohio are familiar with the dangers posed by pavement slips and landslides.

The budget also assists smaller communities in keeping their roads clear and maintained through the help of ODOT.  During intense storms, villages can be snowed under and can use help from the Department of Transportation in clearing snow or debris from storm damage. HB 54 provides that at no cost to a village.

Additionally, the Transportation budget included an amendment which eliminates the authority of a county or township to operate a traffic camera program. The provision was introduced by Senator Cutrona to prohibit this form of government overreach and the unfair burden it places on Ohioans.
