State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) introduced Senate Bill 365 to designate a portion of State Route 11 in Mahoning County as the "Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton Memorial Highway."

“Trooper Nicholas Cayton served his state and community with pride," said Senator Cutrona. "His unexpected passing in the line of duty broke the hearts everyone who knew him. I know that this memorial will honor a great Ohioan who gave his all while serving and protecting The Valley and Eastern Ohio."

A 13 year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton, of the Canfield Post, died on October 16, 2025 as a result of being hit while in his cruiser by a semi-truck on State Route 11 in Canfield, Ohio. Trooper Cayton was assisting a disabled commercial vehicle at the time of the crash. A graduate of Carrollton High School, Trooper Cayton served in the Ohio Army National Guard before joining the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The bill is referred to the Senate Transportation Committee for further consideration.
