Cutrona Introduces PEACE Act
State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) introduced legislation aimed at protecting elected officials from political violence.
“Political violence is a clear and present danger that we face today. My bill sets limits on what information is publicly available about elected officials and their families," said Senator Cutrona. “Given the tragic recent events that have occurred in both Utah and Minnesota this past year, this legislation is more pertinent now than ever, for both Republicans and Democrats. Elected officials answer the call to serve the people, but they did not sign up for their families and loved ones to be put in harm's way.”
The bill enacts the Protect Elected Officials Against Coercion and Extremism (PEACE) Act to generally prohibit the disclosure of an elected official's residential and familial information under the Public Records Law.
