Senate Passes Cutrona Bill Honoring Trooper Nicholas Cayton
The Ohio Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 365, sponsored by State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield), which designates a portion of State Route 11 in Mahoning County as the "Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton Memorial Highway."
“I'm proud to see Senate recognize the service and sacrifice of Trooper Nicholas Cayton," said Senator Cutrona. “While this honor cannot fill the void left by his passing, this memorial will be an ever present reminder of the legacy to duty and service Trooper Cayton provided to his nation and community.”
Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton, of the Canfield Post, died on October 16, 2025 as a result of being struck while in his cruiser by a semi-truck on State Route 11 when providing assistance to a disabled commercial vehicle. A graduate of Carrollton High School, Trooper Cayton served in the Ohio Army National Guard before transitioning to a 13 year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The bill now heads to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
