State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) introduced Senate Bill 391, legislation that places a cap on the salaries of individuals appointed by the Governor at $100,000 annually.

“An appointment by the Governor is a privilege, however, service to the state is not something that should be taken advantage of," said Senator Cutrona. “Stewarding Ohio's tax dollars responsibly is part of my duty as an elected official. This legislation places sensible limits on how much an appointee by the Governor can earn. With a number of appointees earning $200,000+, a potential 50% reduction in salaries will save taxpayers millions of dollars."

The bill caps the salaries of all individuals appointed by the Governor, and subject to the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to $100,000 annually. Additionally, for appointees who work part time, the value is mirrored as an hourly cap. The bill also permits for Senate review the proposed salary or wage for the appointee.

The bill is awaiting referral to a Senate committee for further consideration.
