Senator Cutrona to Introduce Bill Restricting the Use of Flock Cameras

State Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) will soon be introducing legislation to ensure that information collected by Flock cameras is accessed and used appropriately. 

“Ensuring that the rights and privacy of citizens are upheld is the default standard in a government that is of, by and for the people," said Senator Cutrona. “The legislation will prohibit any governmental entity collecting flock camera data from sharing it with a third party or for personal use. This bill will make sure that Flock cameras can be utilized within the confines of the law to properly serve citizens in the Valley and Eastern Ohio."

Under the legislation, the government (local, state, police dept., etc.) will not be permitted to share data with a third party. Additionally, the data can only be saved in the system for up to 10 days before being automatically deleted. Third parties may not solicit this data as well.

Lastly, any individual that is caught using the Flock cameras, or the data within, for personal use instead as part of an active law enforcement case, will be charged with a 4th degree felony.

Pending introduction, the bill will be assigned to a Senate committee for further consideration.
