Ingram Applauds Biden Administration's Final Approval of $7.8B for Intel's Ohio Semiconductor Plant, Boosting Jobs and Economic Growth
Today, state Senator Catherine D. Ingram (D-Cincinnati) welcomed the Biden administration’s final approval of $7.86 billion in funding for Intel’s semiconductor manufacturing plant near Columbus, Ohio, as part of the CHIPS and Science Act. While this funding is slightly less than initially expected, it remains a significant investment in Ohio’s future, bolstering our role in semiconductor production and national security.
“While the funding may not be exactly what was originally anticipated, the reality is that the CHIPS Act passed with bipartisan support and is a major win for Ohio and the nation," said Ingram. "This is a clear signal that we are investing in our workforce and positioning Ohio to lead in the high-tech jobs of tomorrow. This commitment to Ohio’s workforce ensures that we are creating dignified, well-paying jobs that align with our future economy.”
The funding will support Intel’s $20 billion plant in Ohio, expected to create 7,000 construction jobs and 3,000 full-time positions with average salaries of $135,000. This investment is part of the broader CHIPS Act effort to revitalize U.S. manufacturing, reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, and address the supply chain disruptions revealed during the pandemic. By fostering innovation and investing in workforce development, Ohio is well-positioned to lead.
