Today, state Senator Catherine Ingram (D-Cincinnati) condemned the Ohio Senate’s decision to override the governor’s veto of House Bill 68, which bans gender-affirming care for trans minors and bans transgender student athletes from participating in sports that align with their gender identity.

“My desperate colleagues continue to try and determine how Ohioans should live,” said Ingram. “All Ohioans deserve access to the health care and support they need, care that does not include the opinions and fear-mongering of politicians. It is a dreadful time in our state where LGBTQ+ Ohioans do not feel safe.

“I now urge the governor to reconsider his recent rule change recommendations and listen to the countless Ohioans who have courageously come forward to share their stories. Gender-affirming care is life-saving healthcare. The voters made clear in August and in November that personal health care choices should be made between families and doctors, not government officials.”

Governor DeWine vetoed H.B. 68 in December and shortly after, issued executive orders and proposed administrative rules that are even more extreme than House Bill 68.
