Ingram Joins Governor DeWine to Enact Sarah's Law
This week, state Senator Catherine D. Ingram (D-Cincinnati) celebrated the signing of Sarah’s Law, which passed in House Bill 33.
"It is an honor to have Sarah’s Law officially enacted as it was passed in H.B. 33, our state operating budget. Ensuring that our K-12 schools have seizure action plans will ultimately save lives,” Ingram said.
Sarah’s Law was first introduced in the 134th General Assembly under the joint sponsorship of Senator Ingram and Representative Bird. It was then reintroduced in the 135th General Assembly by Senator Ingram as Senate Bill 99. This legislation was then included and passed in H.B. 33, the state operating budget.
Sarah’s Law requires that all public and nonpublic charter schools create individualized seizure action plans for each student who has an active seizure disorder diagnosis. The legislation is named after Sarah Linardos from Springfield, Ohio who lived with seizures since the age of 15, and at 25, passed away from a sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.
