Today, state Senator Catherine D. Ingram (D-Cincinnati) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address.

“There was a significant number of issues covered by the governor today that are of great importance to Ohio as a whole,” said Ingram. “His focus on the well-being of our youngest Ohioans and the work being done to ensure our children have access to books through the Imagination Library is greatly appreciated. My hope is to see that this program continues to be accessible to all of Ohio’s children and families.”

“I must bring attention, however, to the request made by the governor to the legislature to resolve or dictate policy decisions that should be at the discretion of the local school districts. I also remain concerned with the ongoing attempts by the legislature to undermine and manipulate issues that Ohioans voted on. I remain committed to championing the voices of the people, and I look forward to additional conversations about various programs and initiatives as we move through the remainder of this General Assembly.”

Following the Governor’s State of the State address, Senate and House Democrats held a joint press conference to highlight their legislative priorities to make Ohio the best place to live, work and raise a family. These priorities include providing economic relief to working families, rooting out and preventing government corruption, solving Ohio’s housing crisis, expanding access to health care, fostering public safety through commonsense legislation, supporting the state education system, protecting the environment, and ensuring all Ohioans are treated equitably and fairly.
