Cirino Applauds New School Construction Funding in Portage County
Rootstown LSD to receive $11.5 Million in State Funding

COLUMBUS—State Senator Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) today applauded the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's (OFCC) approval of of $18,726,972 in state funding for a school construction project for Rootstown LSD in Portage County.
"When we invest in Ohio's schools, we invest in Ohio's students, and we invest in Ohio's future," said Cirino. "The project at Rootstown will ensure our students have a safe, quality school environment to develop the skills they need to become the next generation of leaders in our community."
Senate Bill 4, of the 133rd General Assembly, appropriated $300 million in capital funding to the OFCC to support school facilities construction.
In total, the OFCC approved more than $242 million in state funding for nine school construction projects. Combined with $208 million in local funding, these projects represent more than $450 million in public construction work.
“When it comes to student learning, school facilities matter,” said OFCC Executive Director Cheryl J. Lyman. “These schools will reflect the best practices in design and construction.”
The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission oversees capital projects undertaken by state agencies and state-supported institutions of higher education; manages Ohio's school facility programs which provide support for the construction and renovation of public K-12 schools; and administers the funding for community-based cultural and sports facilities projects.
