COLUMBUS— Senator Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) hosted a news conference today, in which he shared the proven success of Senate Bill 1

The bill drew major opposition from the national organization representing professors with many suggesting the legislation would hurt students and universities in Ohio. But, as Sen. Cirino highlighted, the data shows otherwise.

"Senate Bill 1 brought important reforms to higher education to ensure intellectual diversity, eliminate structural discrimination, and more," Sen. Cirino said. "As we approach the one-year anniversary of the legislation, I'm proud to say we've seen great results so far."

Sen. Cirino cited data showing total enrollment has increased with several notable achievements. For example, Bowling Green State University had their largest freshman class in history this past year.

"We also heard from critics that this bill would push minorities away from attending college in our state," Sen. Cirino continued. "But the data shows no meaningful change following the implementation of SB1. In fact, Ohio State University and University of Toledo actually saw an increase in minority students."
