Cirino Votes to Pass Fiscally Responsible Senate Biennial Budget Bill

COLUMBUS—Today, Senator Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) joined his colleagues in passing Substitute House Bill 110, the Senate's budget proposal for Ohio's FY 2022-2023 biennium. "During this budget process, I prioritized policies that were pro-business, pro-worker, and enhanced our state's systems of higher education," stated Cirino. "Continuing to build Ohio's workforce in the post-pandemic era is critical for the longterm success of Ohio, and this budget achieves that goal." Major provisions in the Senate's plan include a five percent income tax cut for working Ohioans, a financially sustainable school funding plan that starts with the professional at the front of the class, invests in local governments, and boosts health and human services. Additionally, Senator Cirino highlighted a number of key provisions that will have a major impact in the the local community and across the state of Ohio, including:

• Providing funding that will assist numerous projects and initiatives across the 18th Senate District
• Providing $3 million for the Second Chance Grant pilot program
• Providing $10 million for a Short Term Certificates program providing need-based financial aid to students enrolled at a community college, technical college or Ohio Technical Center
• Restoring funding for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship
• Including language from Senate Bill 80 that will require candidates running in certain judicial races to have their party identification on the general election ballo

The bill now returns to the Ohio House of Representatives, where it is expected to be referred to a conference committee and the House and Senate versions will be reconciled.
