COLUMBUS—Senate Finance Chairman Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland) announced the approval by the Ohio Department of Development of $824,788 in grants to cleanup two contaminated properties in Lake County for future use.

"Both of these projects will help restore unsafe properties and spur economic development," said Senator Cirino. "I know that the funds for these cleanup efforts will be used to enhance the quality of life for the surrounding community and attract new businesses to the area. I look forward to seeing their completion."

The Lake County Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $524,788 to support the environmental cleanup and demolition activities at the former Lakeside Fuel convenience store and gas station property in Perry Township. Cleanup efforts will include asbestos abatement, demolition of the vacant convenience store and canopy structures, removal and closure of underground storage tanks and associated piping, and environmental investigations conducted in accordance with Ohio Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) requirements. Cleanup of the site will prepare it for future commercial or industrial development.

The City of Painesville will receive $300,000 for environmental assessments on a long-vacant 39-acre former railyard with a history of petroleum contamination and heavy industrial uses. The assessment will determine current site conditions, evaluate soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion risks, and prepare the site for future remediation and industrial redevelopment. As a result of the project, an estimated 120 new jobs will be created.
