NAIOP of Ohio, the state's leading commercial real estate development organization, recognized Senator Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland) with the 2026 Champion of Public Service Award. Senator Cirino received this award due to his effective support in the state's 2026-2027 Operating Budget for programs focused on Ohio's housing and economic development policies.

"It is an honor to receive this award from the NAIOP," said Senator Cirino. "With a determined focus on fiscal responsibility, Ohio's $60.23 billion budget allows our state to invest in programs that support residential and commercial development across the state. These programs ensure that local communities maintain their historic identity, increase affordability for Ohioans, and foster opportunities for economic growth."

Created in 2023, the Champion of Public Service Award is given to an individual who demonstrates both excellence and commitment to sound economic development policy in Ohio. Serving as the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Cirino has helped to steer policies that bolster the state's residential and commercial development sector. Among the real estate development programs that received support in Ohio's Operating Budget are the following:

  • Transformational Mixed-Use Development (TMUD) program funding increased to $125 million per year, with $40 million per year focused on projects outside of major cities with any remaining funds rolling over to major city projects.
  • Opportunity Zone Tax Credit annual cap doubled to $50 million.
  • Brownfield Remediation Program received $200 million to assist in the cleanup of hazardous substances or petroleum at an industrial, commercial, or institutional property.
  • Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program annual cap raised to $75 million, and vacancy requirements were removed so property owners no longer have to displace tenants to receive awards.
