McColley Applauds Bill Further Protecting Ohio's Second Amendment Rights

COLUMBUS - State Senator Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) today voted in favor of House changes to Senate Bill 215, further protecting the second amendment rights of the people of Ohio.
The Senate passed the bill in December, removing barriers for law abiding gun owners in Ohio. Specifically, the bill allows law abiding adults to carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit in areas where concealed carry is permitted, providing parity for all legal gun owners.
S.B. 215 modifies the current requirement for individuals to notify law enforcement during traffic stops that they are armed. Individuals would still need to answer truthfully if asked by law enforcement.
“The right to defend one’s self is an inalienable right guaranteed by both the United States Constitution and the Ohio Constitution. Currently, Ohio is already an open carry state, where people can carry a firearm in public so long as it is visible,” said McColley. “There is no reason we should be penalizing law-abiding citizens for wanting to carry their firearm in a more discreet manor. When it comes to the exercise of constitutionally guaranteed rights we should always side with law-abiding Ohioans."
This legislation would make Ohio the 22nd state to allow permitless concealed carry.
