COLUMBUS - State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) announced more than $1.5 million for key Capital Budget projects across Senate District 14. This is the second phase of the process following last week’s announcement of a $350 million investment by the Senate in Ohio communities from the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund.

"This is another great investment into Southern Ohio through our Capital Budget process," Johnson said. "Our communities will see numerous benefits to public safety, workforce training, and parks and recreation facilities because of these dollars. My office received many worthy projects, and I only wish we could have funded all of them, but overall I am grateful to see so much needed funding flow into our Southern Ohio communities."

The projects funded in Senator Johnson's district include:

Capital Improvements The Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve: $50,000
Miami Riverview Park Courts Project Phase 2 - Pickleball Courts: $248,000
Dan Beard Council Skilled Trades Center: $150,000
Batavia Township Park Improvements: $139,919
Grant Memorial Building, Phase III: $46,706
Portsmouth MARCS: $200,000
South Webster Historic City Hall Events Center & Museum: $200,000
South Webster Pickleball Courts: $105,000
Lucasville Community Park Improvements: $100,000
Mound Park Pickleball / Tennis Court resurfacing project: $100,000
Portsmouth Market Square Park: $100,000
West Portsmouth Dr. Singleton Park Revamp: $100,000
Porter Township Splash Park: $50,000

The Capital Budget also includes $600 million for new construction and facility upgrades at Ohio's public schools and $575 million for local infrastructure projects such as roads and water and sewer projects.

The legislature generally approves a Capital Budget every two years, funding needed improvements to public services and facilities across the state, including schools, infrastructure, and mental health and addiction facilities.

The House and Senate introduced similar legislation today that will be vetted in both chambers. See a full list of capital budget projects by clicking here, and follow On the Record to keep updated on this year’s process.
