COLUMBUS—This week, State Senator Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware) announced today the introduction of Senate Bill 126 by State Senators Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) and Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green), targeting the dangers of hazing at colleges and universities across Ohio.
The bill, introduced as Collin's Law last General Assembly, increases penalties for aggravated hazing to a second-degree felony if it causes serious physical harm, substantial risk of physical harm, or death.
“As I am myself a graduate of Buckeye Valley Local Schools, my heart goes out to Stone’s family and the Delaware community. The tragic death of Stone Foltz only further emphasizes the need for increased penalties and preventative measures against hazing,” Brenner said.
Additionally, Senate Bill 126 requires the Ohio Chancellor of Higher Education to develop a statewide educational plan for preventing hazing at institutions of higher education.
